George has turned his 2001 Tacoma into a 3 linked, solid axle swapped, absolute beast.
My build started out as a stock 01 Tacoma. Has been through a few changes in the last 16 years.
Wheeled with both 33 and 34 inch tires,4.88 gears, and All-Pro Offroad upper control arms and leaf springs for a few years. Ended up going to MCM FAB&DESIGN long travel on 38s with ARBs and 5.29s. My little brother OtwellRacing&fabrication built the flatbed and sliders. This served me well for many years. As my experience grew, and my desire for Johnson Valley Hammer trails, something had to be done. The LT was awesome but just couldn’t handle the Baddest of the bad!
Rocksolidtoys stepped in and plasma cut everything off the bottom of the frame. They 3-linked both the front and back with 9.5″ Diamond Axles from Front Range Off-Road. We went with 14″ ADS Coilovers up front and 16″ in the back. Rocksolidtoys also added a 4.7:1 Marlin Crawl Box to the stock 2.3. We went with PSC hydro assist and a HOWE pump for steering and set all that on some Super Swamper 40″ SX-2 tires. I drive it everywhere I wheel. Lots of 4 hour freeway trips out to the Hammers where I air down, wheel all weekend, air back up and then spend 4 hours on the freeway back home. It’s my dream truck. I absolutely love driving it on and off road. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things but please feel free to hit me up with any questions.
